Living Eulogy Outline Topic: The life of Issac Harman V. Purpose: To give background information and specifics of his life. Introduction: On Oct. 12 1983 in Sinai hospital, a young man by the name of Issac Harman V was born. Since that day Issac has lived in Baltimore, Maryland all his life. He was raised by his mother and grandmother mostly his grandmother. From a quick meeting with him you most commonly observe that he is a very quiet person who seems no to have much to say. Even so if you know him you learn Issac is a person who likes to have fun, likes to play sports, hang out with friends, just â€Å"chill†, and is a very family oriented person. He also want to be known as a â€Å"cool†and relaxed person. Also as a someone who cares for the ones he loves.      Body I. Past A. Raised by his grandmother and mother (mostly grandmother)      1. Legislation Legacy
Native Americans or the so called American Indians are considered to belong in the minority group by the White Americans. They were in one way said to be like a third world country because they have a slow pacing in terms of civilization and improvement. Native Americans are faced with a continuous struggle regarding land ownership. (Komp, 2006)Their lands as they say had a spiritual attachment and they really value the piece of land that they own. Any action that would entail the sale and destruction of the land they own would cause great apprehension. This could not be realized abruptly due to the nature of the Natives to be submissive. They needed to have a strong and powerful person to assist them in kinds of need. The issue between the Native Americans and the federal government is about the acquisition of land. They were at all cost hindered to have a land of their own. The government, despite the legislature that they must acquire land, was trying to bend the rule that’s why the case is in pending condition. This scenario could be accounted to the fact that white Americans have the tendency to take advantage over the natives because they were thinking that the natives do not contribute much to the making of their nation. The issue is connected to the fact that the land of the native Americans are proposed by industries to be the site for toxic wastes disposal.(Komp, 2006)If this would be the situation, then most of the American Indians are now faced with the great struggle regarding their health condition. Although some scientist has cited that it would never affect their health, there is no concrete evidence that this is not harmful to them. The legislation that is linked to the issue is the human rights law. American Indians, though native, have the right to protect their possessions and to have a land of their own. Because I Counld Not Stop for Death
The analysis of the relationship between the life experiences and belief Emily Dickinson held and her poems by analyzing â€Å"Because I Could Not Stop for Death†Emily Elizabeth Dickinson (1830-1886), an American poet, was born in Amherst, Massachusetts. Living in a successful family which had an important status in the community, she lived a very introverted life. After having spent seven years in Amherst Academy, she carried on studying in Mount Holyoke Female Seminary for a short period of time. The locals considered her as an eccentric. Maybe this was the reason why she started to be noted for wearing white clothing, and seldom greeting visitors. One of her closest friend Thomas Wentworth Higginson said:†Emily emerged from her wonted retirement and did her part as gracious hostess; nor would any one have known from her manner, I have been told, that this was not a daily occurrence. †(http://www. gutenberg. org/dirs/etext01/1mlyd10. txt) Dickinson’s introverted world let her develop her unique thought and tone. Having never thought of letting the poems be published–it was called â€Å"the Poetry of the Portfolio,†–her poems were the full display of a writer’s own mind. However, the few works published in her life time were largely altered by the publishers to fit the contemporary poetic rules. Dickinson’s poems were unique in her times. Besides the unconventional writing format of poetry: â€Å"containing short lines, typically lack titles, and often utilize slant rhyme as well as unconventional capitalization and punctuation,†her religious belief and the unconventional utterance were evident to be perceived. â€Å"She loved to speak of a compassionate Savior and the grandeur of the Scriptures, but she disliked the hypocrisy and arbitrariness of institutional church. We can infer that the writer possessed her distinctive way to appreciate God. Moreover, she often mentioned immortality, death, and eternity in her poems. In Because I Could Not Stop for Death (1924), Because I could not stop for Death, He kindly stopped for me; The carriage held but just ourselves And Immortality. In the first stanza she portrayed the approach of death . In Calvinist dogma, â€Å"it is true that death passed upon all men through the First Adam†since he was expelled from the Garden and lost the reliance of immortality from Tree of Life and thus made death certain. http://geocities. com/shsnj_2000/theology/calvinism. html) (http://lifeafterdeath. eu/) The same belief can be inferred in the last stanza: Since then ‘t is centuries; but each Feels shorter than the day I first surmised the horses' heads Were toward eternity. The underlined two lines indicate that Dickinson assumed that with the accompanying of death she was resuming and reentering the immortality. After the sketchy understanding of the religious part of her composing background, then the following is the subconscious part of her composing background. According to William Cullen Bryant and Henry Thoreau, we can apply many of the characteristics of Dickinson’s verse in this poem: â€Å"2. Her style is elliptical  she will say no more than she must –suggesting either a quality of uncertainty or one of finality. †For example, she held the word eternity until the last word of the last stanza to point out the main theme. â€Å"3. Her lyrics are her highly subjective  she knows no other consciousness. †Emily Dickinson altogether used three I and at least ten me and my in this poem. Because the extremely limited life circle and introverted world, it was nothing more easier than applying the protagonism (the first person point of view) in the verse. â€Å"4. Ambiguity of meaning and syntax. Wrote Higginson: ‘She almost always grasped whatever she sought, but with some fracture of grammar and dictionary on the way. ’†For example, in the fifth stanza: We paused before a house that seemed (was) A swelling of the ground; The roof was scarcely visible, (and) The cornice (was not a cornice) but a mound. â€Å"5. Concreteness – it is nearly a theorem of lyric poetry that it is as good as it is concrete. Even when she is talking of the most abstract of subjects, Emily specifies it by elaborating it in the concreteness of simile or metaphor. †Here we go to talk about the figurative language. Dickinson used personification to portray Death as a kind and civil gentleman who accompanies her to pass the life that she is busy with and Death is like a suitor who comes calling for the narrator to escort her to eternity. She is too naive concerning Death’s intension for her. â€Å"Frank Bernard states that ‘at [the] poem's opening the speaker is, to say the least, na ive . . . . She does not have the foresight to dress warmly. . . and there is no luggage. ’†(http://www. associatedcontent. com/article/657821/emily_dickinsons_because_i_could_not. html? cat=38) The metaphor in the poem is multiple: first, in the forth stanza, the speaker is only wearing gossamer, tippet, and tulle and feels cold. It means she had come to the late night of her life, and human race has nothing to armor themselves against the cold of death. Second, in the forth stanza, the writer chose the word gown to indicate that she went with death not with sadness but with the attitude to be a bride. Third, in the fifth stanza, the line â€Å"the tomb [is like] a house†points out that there is a place for her to dwell in the long time after passing away because death is not the end but â€Å"eternity. Forth, â€Å"The setting sun passed us†means that human race is a tiny existence that can only be dominated by the power of time. The use of the irony is in the third stanza: We passed the school, where children strove At recess, in the ring; We passed the fields of gazing grain, We passed the setting sun. The speaker illustrated the three images of the stage of life. Each of them is portrayed vividly, however, the speaker is getting away from them and soon entering the next stage, the final stage right after the sunset. â€Å"However, it is understood that when looking back on the experience, she realizes the significance of those seemingly mundane occurrences. †(http://www. associatedcontent. com/article/657821/emily_dickinsons_because_i_could_not. html? cat=38) Analyzing this poem by new criticism, the theme is clear. Though Dickinson's insights are profound, they are limited in topic. Because I could not stop for death†echoes the reoccurring theme of the inevitability of death. In this poem, Dickinson skillfully conveys that theme through a personification of Death as a courtly lover. Death is not the end but the eternity. The carriage symbolizes the procedure of death. As the carriage moves, human beings experience their lives in each stage get and more and more closer to the final destination of life (death). The school, fields, and the setting sun symbolize the early, middle, and late stage of life. The last one of the characteristics of Dickinson’s verse is obscurity and the space for another answer. Higginson said’ †¦ she was obscure, and sometimes inscrutable; and though obscurity is sometimes, in Coleridge's phrase, a compliment to the reader, yet it is never safe to press this compliment too hard. ’ â€Å" †¢ Is Death a kind, polite suitor? The speaker refers to his â€Å"kindness†and â€Å"civility. †He drives her slowly; is this an expression of tact and consideration for her? If he is the courteous suitor, then Immortality,who is also in the carriage (or hearse) would be their chaperon, a silent one. †¢ Is Death actually a betrayer, and is his courtly manner an illusion to seduce her? Because of his kindness in stopping for her, she agrees to go with him (â€Å"put away / My labor and my leisure too†). Is Death really cruel? She is not properly dressed for their journey; she is wearing only a gossamer gown and tulle tippet (gossamer: very light, thin cloth; tulle: a thin, fine netting used for veils, scarfs, etc. tippet: covering for the shoulders). Is Immortality really an accomplice to Death's deception? Her life experiences and religious belief have influenced her verse a lot. The Humble Beginings of Bill Cosby
Bill Cosby came from a poor neighborhood as a child. He grew up with a lot of humor. He did not know that he would make a career of it as a child. As he later grew up he tried stand up comedy and succeeded. in the 1960†³s â€Å"I Spy†came out and broke the racial barrier by featuring Cosby, the first ever black man to lead a weekly dramatic series. So he started a television show called â€Å"The Bill Cosby Show.†The Show brought NBC from last place in the ratings to first. His show was a great success. His goals included succeeding in life as a comedian. He did that and did it very well. His success in entertainment was complemented by his involvement with a host of charity organizations and making generous gifts in support of education. While Cosby was younger he saw little of his father. His mom on the other hand was very supportive. His mom was a major influence and his first audience member. It didn†t take long for him to start gigs on her and practicing routines on her. She always encouraged his inventive performances of everyday household happenings. A couple of his friends that he knew from elementary school including: Fat Albert, Old Weird Harold, Dumb Donald, and Weasel was an influence on him and later immortalized in his comedy routines. Family and Friends helped Bill Cosby get a great start in his entertainment career. As a child Cosby loved to joke around all the time with his friends after school while playing in the playground. They loved playing gags on each other in their free time. Bill Cosby was always loved by neighbors and friends of family. He would always be in a good mood no matter what the situation. When Bill walked in a room he always brought humor with him and made people laugh. This is pretty much how he figured he could be a comedian when he grew up. He had to leave the tenth grade to join the Navy, but he finished school by means of a correspondence course while in the service. Later when he was discharged he enrolled at Temple University in Philadelphia, hoping to become a physical education teacher. To support himself he started to perform at a nightclub that really enjoyed his performances. His talent started to spread north to New York, so he left school to perform in Greenwich Village clubs, and within a year he landed a spot on â€Å"The Tonight Show†. In 1963 Cosby revolutionized American comedy. At the peak of the civil rights movement, Cosby was unique among black comedians of the time in not using race as a subject. He was also very popular in the publishing world. His book Fatherhood became the fastest-selling hardcover book of all the time which is still in more than half of its fifty-four weeks on The New York Times Best Seller List as number one. The book sold over 2.6 million hardcover copies and 1.5 million paperbacks. He has earned eight Gold Records and five Grammy Awards on his 21 albums that he had on the national pop charts. He broke Radio City Music Hall†s fifty-three year old attendance record for his concert appearances. Ever since Cosby was little he knew he wanted to do comedy. All the other things that came about was just add ins that helped him out even more. More people should learn about Bill Cosby because they should see how he succeeded in life. For someone with not so much education he did very great in life. Otherwise, why would they generate caution and circumspection to such an extent that their usage begins to draw ire and consequences! "For example, the marks REDSKINS and REDSKINETTES as applied to football entertainment services, and MOONIES as applied to a doll that exposes its buttocks, have been criticized as disparaging Native Americans and religious followers of the Unification Church, respectively. Hence, as a rule of thumb, it is generally accepted that when a word associated disparagingly with a group is put forward for something serious like legal clearance for registration, such words are counted as being derisive of a group, it may be any group, and these words have to be expunged. But the question arises. Why must these words be expunged What is wrong in them They are not bad words. These words express a meaning. They may sound derisive to some. But they are understood to stand for something that may be noble. They need not stand for the gospel truth when they are mistook for something that may differ from their original meaning. We all know what is "bitch". The word has evolved to an extent that is exists in an out-of-shape form. I readily understand that a bitch is an odious woman. Yes, that is bitch! It is that woman I do not care about. She is a bitch! You tell her anything she will believe. She is a dirty woman! So she is a bitch. Unacceptable as this word has become, it is bandied about in all hue and shape with chivalrous regularity. The word may be synonymous with infamy. But its reach has scaled dizzying levels. One may not feel overwhelmed or ashamed when it is associated with none other than Hillary Rodham Clinton (Zeisler, Andi). This sounds hilarious as well as hegemonic. The same group that is using a word for an international figure has also discarded the original meaning for "bitch". Call it a she-dog. Do not call her a bitch. There are two major outcomes which give radioisotope status to an element, either by gaining a neutron and making an atom neutron rich or by gaining a proton and resulting in proton rich atom. The unstable state of a radioisotope is converted to stable one by the emission of alpha or beta particle with some energy release in the form of gamma rays. In fact, this is radioactive decay of that atom. In medicine, these radioactive products are termed as radiopharmaceuticals (Medical isotopes). Around the first decade of the last century there had been some initial, discussions on the issues of radioactivity and radioisotopes like thorium and ionium. Most of the radioisotopes which are in more frequent use today were discovered during the third decade of the last century.
